The coronavirus outbreak has caused massive disruptions across the world, in all areas of life. One of the biggest impacts has been financial.
The global economy has crashed and many businesses have had to shut down following government mandated lock-downs.
As a result, many people have lost their jobs, or are not getting paid and the financial stress has caused a lot of difficulty and strife.
Making money during the lock down is so difficult because nobody is allowed to leave their home. That means, you’re limited to what you can do over the internet.
Luckily, there is one industry that hasn’t really been affected by the coronavirus, in fact, it’s probably been strengthened!
What we’re referring to of course is teaching english online! If you want to teach English online and make money from home, keep reading.
Online Teaching Opportunities
In badly affected countries, and even some that haven’t been that badly affected, the majority of schools and universites have closed. But that doesn’t mean that classes have stopped. Instead, they are continuing through online learning.
While online education may be a new thing for many schools, online English teaching has been a growing industry now for a while!
This is shown by the following graph (check out the huge spike in March 2020!):
Don’t you want to teach English online and take advantage of the upward trend?
A Great Way to Earn Money at Home
There is no-doubt that of all the ways to earn money at home, teaching English online is one of the most fun and the most rewarding!
There are a number of companies that employ online English teachers to teach English online to children overseas. By far the biggest market for online English teachers is China.
Salaries for online English teachers are in the range of $12-25 per hour. The amount you earn will be based on your qualifications and experience. But don’t worry, companies will still employ you even if you’ve never taught before.
The reason why teaching English online is such a great way to earn money is that it’s easy and you don’t need much equipment to get started!
All you’ll need is a computer with a webcam, a microphone (most computers have one built-in already) and an internet connection.
Apart from the basic equipment listed above, to teach English online, you’ll also need a TEFL certificate. TEFL stands for Teaching English as a Foreign Language and having a TEFL certificate is proof that you have completed a course in how to teach English to foreign students.
Don’t worry though, many TEFL courses can be completed 100% online (that’s right, you won’t have to leave your home) and it won’t take you long.
In fact, you can earn a recognised, comprehensive online TEFL certification in just 2-4 weeks! That’s right, in just 2-4 weeks you could be making money as an online English teacher.
If you’re interested in getting your TEFL certificate now, we recommend Let’s TEFL’s Ultimate 120 Hour Online TEFL Course.
